Codestral Mamba & Mathstral - Small Models, Big Impact

Mistral AI just launched Codestral Mamba and Mathstral, two new small, specialized language models that achieve state-of-the-art performance for open-source models on key benchmarks.

Codestral Mamba is a 7B model offering fast inference and advanced coding capabilities that surpass open-source rivals like CodeGemma and CodeLlama. The model can handle context lengths up to 256k tokens (doubling GPT4o), making it ideal for large, complex coding tasks and local development.

Mathstral, also a 7B parameter model, achieves SOTA performance on math reasoning benchmarks like MATH (56.6%) and MMLU (63.47%).

Both were released under the Apache 2.0 license, allowing for free use, modification, and distribution — and available via Mistral’s API and Hugging Face.

Proton's AI Writing Assistant Redefines Privacy

Proton has launched a new AI-enabled writing assistant, Proton Scribe, designed to help users compose, redraft, and proofread emails with privacy at the forefront. This move reflects Proton's commitment to privacy-centric solutions across its suite of productivity tools.

Local Deployment: Proton Scribe can be deployed entirely at the local device level, offering a privacy-focused alternative to third-party AI providers. By ensuring that user data stays on the device, Proton aims to address concerns about data privacy and security in the context of AI writing tools.

Personalization vs. Privacy: While the tool's privacy-centric approach limits personalized responses, Proton has added "quick actions" to facilitate easy editing of drafts, emphasizing the company's commitment to improving Proton Scribe's functionality while maintaining privacy standards. Just as MTV's The Hills captured our attention with its drama, today's digital landscape is teeming with an overwhelming volume of content. When More Becomes Less: According to Sprout's 2024 Content Benchmarks Report, brands published an average of 10 posts per day across networks in 2023, with some industries doubling or even quadrupling this number. However, as content volume grows, users' ability to engage meaningfully declines. Research shows that human screen attention spans have dropped from 2.5 minutes in 2004 to just 47 seconds in 2023.

The AI Factor: AI-generated content is reshaping the social media landscape, further complicating the challenge for marketers. Tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E have flooded social feeds with AI-generated posts. For marketers, distinguishing their content from AI-generated noise is becoming increasingly difficult.
