Users Cry Foul Over Private Messages Being Used to Train Slack’s AI Model

Slack’s recent message has caused quite a backlash. By default, and without requiring users to opt-in, Slack has been analyzing customer data and usage information (including messages, content, and files) to build AI/ML models to improve the software. The company insists it has technical controls in place to block Slack from accessing the underlying content and promises that data will not leak across workplaces. Despite these assurances, corporate Slack admins are scrambling to opt-out of the data scraping. This raises the question: what exactly are they taking in or have taken in? Know More

Will Bedrock Boost Amazon’s Position In Generative AI Race

With the aim of bringing generative AI capabilities to businesses and simplifying generative AI application development, Amazon’s Bedrock promises much more for AWS in the Generative AI race. Available in public preview since last week, the web-based Bedrock Studio — part of Bedrock, Amazon’s generative AI tooling and hosting platform — provides what Amazon describes as a “rapid prototyping environment” for generative AI. Rather than reinventing the wheel, Bedrock Studio appears to streamline existing products and services, topped with corporate governance and compliance capabilities. It’s all in service of making Bedrock the go-to platform for generative AI app development. Know More

Former OpenAI Leader Says Safety Has Taken A Backseat At OpenAI

Jan Leike, who worked alongside Ilya Sutskever (also resigned) in the superalignment team tasked with the safe development of AI, has made remarkable statements about safety at OpenAI after quitting. An AI researcher by training, Leike believes there should be more focus on preparing for the next generation of AI models, including safety and analyzing the societal impacts of such technologies. He said building “smarter-than-human machines is an inherently dangerous endeavor” and that the company “is shouldering an enormous responsibility on behalf of all of humanity.” Keep Reading
